Writing (Literacy Tree)
Writing is taught through the Literacy Tree scheme, which places high-quality texts at the centre of writing instruction. Units of work are carefully sequenced and linked to the wider curriculum, enabling pupils to write with purpose, audience and creativity.
Through the Literacy Tree approach, pupils:
- Engage deeply with a rich, high-quality core text
- Explore vocabulary, language structures and authorial techniques
- Develop ideas through discussion, drama and oral rehearsal
- Produce a range of meaningful written outcomes across fiction, non-fiction and poetry
Writing is explicitly taught through carefully planned sequences that build transcription skills, sentence structure and composition over time. Pupils are supported to edit and improve their writing, developing confidence, independence and pride in their work.
This approach ensures pupils become confident, articulate writers who can communicate effectively across the curriculum.
